GUIDE - Hikvision Hik-Connect
GUIDE - HikVision NVR "Invalid encryption key" error message
Seen as a pop-up at the bottom right screen corner in your browser when trying to access a video stream from a HikVision camera to Live View it/them on your HikVision NVR.
There is another version of the message - "The stream is encrypted. Please go to the Local Configuration interface to set the Encryption Key and restart live view".
The 'key' that you need to enter is actually the "Verification Code" that you set when you enable and set up Platform Access for Hik-Connect.
Let me re-state and clarify this further, this is the entry that YOU make, this is where YOU set the encryption key / verification code. It is your secret code, which you should only share with others that you wish to allow to view your system.
YOU enter it here:
Then, to be able to view your cameras etc. any viewer must re-enter this code/key when they first try to view e.g. on a browser, App, software, etc.
You do seem to need to enter this verification code / encryption key via the browser of any additional PC (even on the same LAN) that you wish to access the NVR from.
You will need to enter the code / key here:
You can disable encrypted streaming if you prefer.
This can only be done (enabled/disabled) via a monitor directly connected to your NVR.
You will need to navigate to Configuration -> Network -> Access Platform and untick "Enable Stream Encryption".

GUIDE - Logging directly into IP cameras that are connected to an NVR
One of the benefits of IP cameras is that you can login directly to a camera via the user friendly web interface to adjust a wide range of settings that are not all available when going through the NVR itself. This includes the ability to default a camera if it is having issues to confirm a hardware fault.
However when cameras are connected to the Hikvision NVRs directly they are put on a separate sub net so are normally inaccessible over the network directly. Luckily however Hikvision have provided a solution via the NVRs web interface by enabling just one option:
1) Log into the NVRs web interface and go to Configuration > Network > Advanced > Other and tick 'Enable Virtual Host'
2) Then go to the left and System > System Settings > Camera Management - where you will see a new column on the far right with links allowing you to click through to each individual cameras web interface.
Unless set otherwise the username and password should be the same as the NVR.
From here you can fine tune the cameras image settings and go the the System > Maintenance menu to update firmware and perform a full factory default (Try 'restore' first before 'default').
GUIDE - How to set motion detection recording with an SD card

Click ‘Edit’ to set the time table of motion detection (e.g. 24h/7 days). Time table will show blue if you have set. Click ‘Trigger Channel’ in linkage method to set it trigger recording. See following:
Step 3: Go Storage->Record Schedule, Click ‘Enable Record Schedule’, click ‘Edit’, will pop up this interface, set the time table and recording type(motion detection) as you want, click ‘OK’. Take an example, 24h/ 7 days motion detection recording type will show as following:
Please check again when you back to the Record Schedule interface, motion detection will show green as it indicates on the right. Click ‘Save’ button. See following:
Step 4: here you have finished the configuration of motion detection recording in SD card. You can go to playback interface to search out the recording file after it record for about 5 mins. See following:

Camera Questions
FAQ - What wattage PoE switch would I need to power these cameras?
The cameras operate at a maximum of 5 watts per camera so 5 * X would be the equation, with X being the total number of cameras.
FAQ - Which microSD cards are compatible with Hikvision cameras?
A very popular option many Hikvision cameras support that we've seen utilised more and more often over the last few years has been edge-recording, specifically recording to a microSD inserted into the camera. Many customers only want short-term recording, or only wish to purchase a single camera and can't justify picking up an NVR too, at which point a camera that can record to a microSD card is ideal.
In the Hikvision range of cameras, those that can take a microSD card are denoted by an -F suffix in their part code. For example, the DS-2CD2142FWD-I 4MP R6 camera and the DS-2CD2132F-I 3MP R0 camera can both take microSD cards.
Currently, up to 128GB microSD cards are supported by Hikvision cameras. The list of supported microSD cards can be found below, taken from a Hikvision USA technical bulletin which is attached in its entirety to this thread.
For example, the SanDisk SDSQUNC-128G-GN6IA has proven to be a very popular 128GB option, and is a cost-effective method of ensuring you have some degree or recording redundancy.
FAQ - What is the difference between 2.8mm and 4.0mm Lenses?
- Choosing a selection results in a full page refresh.
- Press the space key then arrow keys to make a selection.
- Use left/right arrows to navigate the slideshow or swipe left/right if using a mobile device
